Today we will visit the famous floating Tori on Miyajima. .
This picture is wellknow all over the world and we were with "Marida" very close to it because we lifted the centerboard.
On the island , close to the beach, is a Shrine dated from 1168.Its pier like construction is a result of the island's holy status
Commoners were not allowed to set foot on land and had to approach the Shrine by boat trough the "Floating Tori". Most of the time the shrine and tori are surrounded by mud ....like today in the low tide. So now you can see the tori is not floating but standing on a mudbank......
